Description
Pioneros South Glacier offers a unique way to visit the Perito Moreno Glacier, combining boat trips on the Brazo Rico of Lake Argentino, a visit to the historic Estancia Nibepo Aike with a Patagonian lamb lunch, forest walks in front of the glacier, and a tour of the walkways.
The day begins at 9:30 a.m., with pick-up from hotels in El Calafate. From there, the tour proceeds along the old estancia route towards Lago Roca, within Los Glaciares National Park, about 60 km from El Calafate.
At Estancia Nibepo Aike, take a walk around the old main house while the guide narrates the history of the first settlers. Participants can witness traditional activities such as sheep shearing and herding.
At noon, enjoy an included lunch with roasted lamb. After lunch, embark towards Playa de las Monedas for a leisurely 20-minute trek through the forest to a viewpoint with views of the south face of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Afterwards, sail in front of the south face with whiskey or vodka with glacier ice.
The excursion ends with a tour of the Perito Moreno walkways for approximately 2 hours. The return to El Calafate is via the traditional asphalt route, arriving at the hotel around 7:00 p.m., after a full day of discovery and adventure in the southern area of Los Glaciares National Park.
