Description
Darwin Experience: a unique journey in Patagonia, inspired by Charles Darwin’s historic voyage, who explored the Santa Cruz River in 1834. It combines history, nature, and adventure in an unforgettable day that explores the most authentic landscapes of southern Patagonia.
The excursion begins with pick-up at accommodations in El Calafate starting at 9:00 am, to embark on a journey in 4×4 vehicles along the mythical Route 40, crossing 40 km to reach the Santa Cruz River, the starting point of the journey.
There, certified guides provide a technical safety and environmental interpretation talk, while participants are equipped with Gore-Tex dry suits, gloves, boots, and life jackets.
Then begins the navigation in double kayak, descending 15 km downstream for approximately 90 minutes, in an imposing natural environment where geological formations, birds, and native fauna are observed. Each section of this tour revives Darwin’s explorer spirit.
After completing the kayak trip, you will arrive at Estancia Río Bote, where a Patagonian lunch awaits on the banks of the river. Then, the return trip begins in a 4×4 (65 km) to El Calafate.
