Description
Perito Moreno Minitrekking is the most complete experience to explore the Perito Moreno Glacier, combining ice hiking, trekking through the forest and the lake shore in front of the glacier, sailing along the south face, and a visit to the walkways. During the excursion, you will be able to appreciate cracks, seracs, sinkholes, lagoons, and deep blue ice formations, ending with a toast with whiskey and ancient ice on one of the most impressive glaciers in the world.
The experience starts from El Calafate, including transfer to the glacier (78 km), or, if the transfer is not hired, the meeting point at Puerto Bajo de las Sombras, located 7 km before the glacier. From there, there is a navigation of approximately 20 minutes through the Brazo Rico of Lago Argentino until arriving at a refuge where groups of up to 20 people are formed.
From the refuge, the walk begins along the lake shore, with panoramic views of the glacier, to the point where crampons are placed to start the Minitrekking. During the tour, the guides explain aspects of glaciology and you can admire various natural formations such as cracks, lagoons and seracs.
At the end of the trekking on the glacier, you return to the refuge walking along a forest path, where a souvenir is given. Then a navigation is made in front of the south face of the glacier and if you hired the excursion with transfer, you will visit the area of the walkways from where you get a different perspective of the iconic Perito Moreno. Finally, you return to El Calafate, after having lived a unique experience walking on ancient ice.
