Description
An ideal excursion to discover the Tierra del Fuego National Park without physical demands, departing from the city of Ushuaia and enjoying enough time to explore its main panoramic points in a relaxed way. The activity proposes a guided tour to the southernmost national park in Argentina, where the marine environment of the Beagle Channel, the sub-Antarctic forest, and the Andes Mountains combine.
The excursion begins with the transfer from your hotel in Ushuaia, from where the journey to the national park begins in a westerly direction. After traveling approximately 8 km and leaving the city behind, the first stop is at the End of the World Train station.
At this point, you will have time to visit the station, take photographs and, optionally, take the train ride, which runs 7 km of the old railway line used by prisoners. Passengers who have contracted this service will meet the guide and the rest of the group at the end of the tour to continue with the visit to the national park.
Inside the Tierra del Fuego National Park, you will visit Ensenada Bay, where you will take a gentle 20-minute walk accompanied by the guide, who will provide information about the flora, fauna, geography, and history of the place. In addition, you can stamp your passport at the post office located there. During the winter months, from May onwards, this stop is not made because the state of the road becomes impassable.
The excursion continues through the lenga forest until reaching the coast of Lake Roca/Acigami, a lake shared with Chile. From there, a short tour is made along the coast of the Lapataia River until arriving at the Alakush Visitor Center, where you will have time to use the restrooms, visit the interpretation room, and the cafeteria.
The tour continues into the national park until reaching the end of National Route No. 3, in Lapataia Bay, the final panoramic point of the excursion. In this sector, you can observe vestiges of ancient Yamanas settlements, while the guide tells about their customs and way of life. The landscape, which combines forest, sea, and mountains, is imposing and invites you to take a break to take photographs of the End of the World and the emblematic sign that marks the end of National Route No. 3.
Finally, you return to the city of Ushuaia along the same road, enjoying the natural environment again, after having visited the main panoramic attractions of the End of the World.
It is essential to wear appropriate clothing: waterproof jacket, warm sweater, trekking pants, thick socks, waterproof boots, hat and gloves for greater comfort.
